North Tyneside has reached a milestone in the fight against COVID-19 after administering the 20,000th vaccine in the borough.
Since the first vaccine was administered on 15 December 2020, clinicians have worked tirelessly to vaccinate priority groups across North Tyneside. This is predominately at the vaccination sites based at Wallsend, North Shields and the North West. District Nurses, Frailty Nurses, GPs and Pharmacists have also visited house bound residents and all older adult residential and nursing homes to administer vaccinations.
North Tyneside CCG has worked closely with Primary Care Network (PCN) partners and TyneHealth to ensure a smooth roll out of the vaccination. Huge efforts and dedication have ensured that they administer the vaccine to the priority groups first. This group includes care home residents and staff, people over the age of 80 and frontline healthcare workers.
The North Tyneside CCG said:
“It has been a mammoth task to set up the vaccination centres and to vaccinate the population which is the biggest challenge the NHS has ever seen. We have worked closely with a wide range of partners and only through everyone’s determination and hard work, we have been able to vaccinate so many people in such a short space of time.
I would like to personally thank the GPs, Nurses, Volunteers, Administrative staff, Pharmacists, Students and the CCG who are all supporting the vaccination programme”.
David Pritchard, a retired Head Teacher aged 77 was the 20,000th person to be vaccinated in North Tyneside.
One resident of North Tyneside sent a kind hand-written card to share how thankful and impressed she was for the care she received after having the vaccination.
The resident shared:
“I am very impressed with the speed and efficiency of all concerned. There were hundreds of us waiting and each treated with care and curtesy as though we were alone.”
“Never in my ninety years have I felt so proud to be British, thank you.”
The NHS would like to continue to remind people not to call their GP surgeries or other parts of the NHS to enquire about their vaccination appointment.
People will be invited to attend an appointment and at the time will be given all information that they require.
