What is Spirometry?

Spirometry is a common test used to assess lung function and measures how much air a person can breathe in and out in one forced breath. It can help diagnose and monitor certain lung conditions such as asthma, COPD and others. The service is provided to patients (aged 5+) living and registered with a GP practice in North Tyneside. The service operates on a GP referral basis.

TyneHealth provides all administration duties which include appointment booking, returning test results to the patient’s GP practice and dealing with any queries that arise. TyneHealth also provide a small split of the clinical appointments with the rest delivered by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
